New Blog

October 26, 2007

Ok, I have decided I am no longer liking working with Movable Type, so I decided to create a new blog on Bloggspot. From now on, I will be making my updates, here. Comments will be enabled too. I had to disable them here a while back because of comment spam.

Granite Gripper

October 23, 2007

I just got back from photographing the Granite Gripper at Enchanted Rock near llano, TX. It was an amazing event with an excellent turnout. It was one of the first climbing competitions to hold a roped competition. There was a larger amount of competitors bouldering, but the roped climbers still represented. I hope to post some photos within the next month or so.

I also heard some depressing news today. I found out my hard drive that recently crashed is beyond recovery. I have lost many gigs of photos as a result of this. I don't know the extent of my loss yet though as I do have a lot of the photos backed up, but there is quite a bit that I had not got around to backing up yet. The lesson learned from this is, always back up your photos immediately after a shoot.

My workflow will now include burning two DVD's of the shoot and backing up stock worthy images on my Photoshelter account. I know I lost a number of climbing photos in the loss, but thankfully some of them where backed up on my Photoshelter account. I know I lost my RAW files from a recent trip to the Wichita Mountains. I'm just hoping I have more stuff backed up than I remember. Once I get my new hard drive in I will be able to figure out what I still have in my DVD backups.

Stacey and Adam

October 17, 2007

Last weekend at New Waverly Manor near Hunstville Texas I photographed a beautiful outdoor wedding. Things went amazingly well, despite a couple moments where I thought we were not going to have time for portraits, everything worked out though. Here are some of my favorites from the day

It's been a long time

October 15, 2007

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I have actually not been shooting a lot lately. I have been taking somewhat of a sabbatical from my photography work. I am searching out whether or not this is something I truly want to do. I have had a hand full of assignments this past few months, including one this past weekend. I will be posting photos from that wedding sometime this week.

Everybody has their "dream job" but not everybody gets to do that job. If I had mine I would be traveling the country shooting adventure photography and a few weddings here and there for a change of pace, plus I enjoy shooting them. My recent love for the outdoors has caused me to want to change the direction of my photography, yet I haven't been given many opportunities to do that. I am usually hauling around 50 pounds of climbing gear and find it difficult to bring my camera, much less break it out and shoot when I am spending my day climbing rocks.

I am however going to Enchanted Rock this weekend to shoot The Granite Gripper I am excited about the opportunity to lay aside my climbing gear and focus my energy on shooting climbers, rather than being one of them. I have had a lot of ideas about what I could do shooting climbers, now I will finally be able to put those ideas to the test. With that said, look for photos from that event during the week after the event.

Lindsay and Matthew

July 19, 2007

Congratulations to Lindsay and Matthew. This will be my last wedding post for a while as I currently have a clean slate as far as wedding bookings go. I am sure things will start to fill up in the fall. I will be taking just over a week off in August to go backpacking and rock climbing in Colorado. I hope to come back with some beautiful pictures. Last year it rained most of the time but I hope this year is different.
